«Encaustic» for children from an orphanage

Artist Yulia Mamontova held a master class on non-traditional painting technique «Encaustic»

On March 14, 2020, artist Yulia Mamontova (Zabrodina) and art curator Yulia Trushlya gave a master class on non-traditional painting technique “Encaustic” for children from an orphanage in the Vladimir region, which gave the children delight and good mood.

Artist Yulia Mamontova introduced children to the ancient and rare technique of painting – encaustic, told about the tools with which the encaustic artist works and showed how paintings are created. Under the guidance of Julia Mamontova and under the supervision of teachers the children studied the technique of painting “Encaustic” and painted their own works with hot wax paints made of beeswax, resin and pigments. It was the first time they had encountered such an unusual way of creating paintings.

Director, teacher of the first category with experience of 23 years, Nadezhda Evgenievna Krylova-Peshkova said that she knows the history of encaustics, which appeared in the ancient ages, but in practice has never encountered it. “I haven’t heard of any artists in Russia working in this technique. Very unusual and bright paintings that anyone can create. I think that encaustic deserves as much attention and popularity as other types of painting”, she added.
